Inglaterra recebeu as nomeações dos Lauren Olivier Awards e a portuguesa Sofia Escobar foi uma das nomeadas naqueles que são os Óscares do Teatro.
“La Cage Aux Folles”, o clássico musical com Graham Norton, vai à frente nas nomeações dos Laurence Olivier Awards, recebendo sete nomeações em seis categorias. Os Musicais “Jersey Boys”, “Zorro” e “Piaf” todos recebem cinco nomeações, assim como recebe o drama da Guerra do Golfo “Back Watch”.
As nomeações de “La Cage” vêm contribuir para o grande ano da produtora Sonia Friedman, cujas produções, “No Man’s Land”, “That Face” e “Maria Friedman: Rearranged”, recebem um total de 13 nomeações.
Este número é equiparado pelo Donmar Warehouse, que já recebeu um enorme conjunto de prémios pelas suas produções o ano passado. Tendo tido produções no seu teatro normal, tendo-se posteriormente transferido para o West End e lançado ainda uma temporada especial para o West End no Teatro Wyndham, o Donmar, dirigido pelo Director Artístico Michael Grandage, recebeu nomeações pelas suas produções de “Piaf”, “The Chalk Garden”, “Ivanov” e “Twelfth Night”.
Entre as actrizes que esperam levar para casa o mais consagrado galardão do teatro londrino estão, Penelope Wilton e Margaret Tyzack, que representam lado a lado em “The Chalk Garden”, a vencedora de um Tony Deanna Dunagan por “August: Osage County” e Lindsay Duncan de “That Face” na categoria de Melhor Actriz.
Para Melhor Actor, David Bradley e Michael Gambon da peça “No Man’s Land” competem contra o grande Derek Jacobi (Twelfth Night) que aliás acaba de ganhar o Critics’ Circle Award e ainda Adam Godley por “Rain Man”. Na categoria de Melhor Actor secundário estão os nomes de Oliver Ford Davies e Patrick Stewart por “Hamlet”. Kevin R McNally por “Ivanov” e Paul Ritter por “The Norman Conquests”.
Este ano uma nova categoria surge nos Olivier Awards – Best Company Performance, o que em português se poderá traduzir para Melhor Elenco Conjunto (como é atribuído nos Prémios Guia dos Teatros), nomeados estão “August: Osage County”, “Black Watch”, “The Histories”, “The Norman Conquests” e “Sunset Boulevard”.
Para melhor novo musical a corrida é entre “Jersey Boys” e “Zorro”, enquanto “La Cage Aux Folles”, “Piaf”, “Sunset Boulevard” e “West Side Story” correm atrás do troféu de Melhor Reposição, Estes seis musicais e o “Marguerite” do Theatre Royal Haymarket partilham depois todas as outras categorias relativas ao teatro musicail.
Os Laurence Olivier Awards serão entregues dia 8 de Março. A titulo de curiosidade é de referir que entre os nomeados da cena teatral londrina do ano de 2008, “West Side Story” tem uma versão portuguesa actualmente em cena no Teatro Politeama numa encenação de Filipe La Féria, pela mão do mesmo encenador estão para começar os ensaios de “La Cage Aux Folles” e a peça “August: Osage County” que esteve em cena no National Theatre tem estreia prevista para o Teatro Nacional para 24 de Junho numa encenação de Fernanda Lapa.
